WHAT IS A MINDFUL ARTS SPECIALIST?
A Mindful Arts Specialist, also referred to as a Mindful Arts Coach, Integrative Creativity Specialist or Expressive or Therapeutic Arts Facilitator is a professional trained in art-based modalities where the magic is in the creative process rather than the outcome. I'M NOT ARTISTIC. WILL I STILL BENEFIT FROM WORKING WITH YOU?
Expressing oneself creatively does not require any artistic skill. Rather, it requires a willingness to get still, look inside for truth and the courage to put pen to paper. There is no "right" or "wrong" in what comes out. It is purely a connection to the present moment where we can all find meaning, inspiration and guidance. Give yourself the gift of self-awareness and self-knowledge, and prepare to spark creativity and discover joy.
HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY SESSION?
We recommend, for any self-care time or session/workshop we do together, that you find a space free from distraction and unnecessary noise. Bring water or tea to stay hydrated. Maybe light a candle or run an aromatherapy diffuser. Clear the space where you'll be working. Finally, do all this with time to spare so that you're not rushing to login on time.
WHAT TYPES OF SESSIONS DO YOU OFFER?
Vanessa is always happy to customize sessions to meet YOUR needs. Typically, she offers a free monthly community session, 1:1 healing arts coaching, and small group workshops multiple times during the year.
WHAT TYPE OF SPACE WILL I NEED?
That depends on what type of space you have and how messy you intend to get! All sessions at A Mindful Line simply require space for a computer or mobile device along with enough space to paint/draw/zentangle.
DO I HAVE TO MAKE A HUGE INVESTMENT IN ART SUPPLIES?
Absolutely not! We love to work with what you have...remember this is about the process, not the outcome. Of course, we can provide a materials list if you'd like to try out some new supplies OR we can design your sessions around what you already have to work with.
HOW DOES THIS WORK ONLINE?
It works so well! We start by connecting and sharing a mindfulness practice. Then the fun begins when we get creative. In group sessions we will hold the pieces up to the camera. For 1:1 sessions, Vanessa recommends adding a second camera so that she can see what is unfolding and invite further inquiry and discovery.
WHAT DO I DO WITH MY ART?
Anything you want! You can crumple it up and use it in the fire pit. You can take pictures of what you create and save them to a session-specific album on your phone or computer. Or, you can store them in a sketchbook. We can always talk more about this before getting started to figure out what works best for you.
WHAT IS THE CANCELLATION POLICY?
We understand that life happens. We kindly request that cancellations come in writing (text or email) with 24-hours' notice for 1:1 sessions or by October 2 for the Fall Cohort. There is a cancellation fee of $50 for late cancellations. Those who do not show for their appointment and have not communicated a need to cancel will be charged for the session.
